Overall situational picture of security of supply: Safeguarding the critical infrastructure remains essential
The companies and organisations that form the critical infrastructure continue to be targeted by cyberattacks. These organisations must improve the ability of their employees to recognise phishing attempts, for example. Short-term industrial action does not impact security of supply significantly – prolonged strikes could be detrimental.
The overall situational picture of security of supply compiled by the National Emergency Supply Agency (NESA) examines the challenges in the operating environment from several perspectives. The situational picture report includes an overview of different industries’ ability to function and the challenges they may face.
At present, the overall situational picture of security of supply is updated once a month.
The NESA releases a brief summary of the situational picture report. The details concerning industries are classified and are therefore not made public.
Situational picture on 16 February: Maritime transport is being examined for various reasons
Companies making up the critical infrastructure are still being targeted by cyberattacks, which is why the threat assessment remains at an elevated level. Organisations must prepare for possible phishing and scam attempts by drawing up clear processes for reporting the incidents and training their personnel to recognise fraudulent messages and other forms of malicious contact.
Industrial action is causing direct or indirect disruptions in almost all sectors. For now, the brief strikes have not had substantial impacts on security of supply. Prolonged industrial action may also impair security of supply.
Maritime transport is essentially important to Finland. Delays are expected in global container transport due to interruptions in the Red Sea area. Moreover, the expansive ice field on the Baltic Sea is increasing the risk of logistical disruptions and highlighting the importance of effective ice breaking arrangements.
The second round of the presidential elections and the relevant reporting in news media went smoothly, as did the first round. Denial-of-service attacks on Finnish news media organisations were not observed, for example.
The crisis of the construction sector is deepening, but the financial situation regarding the essential infrastructure for security of supply has remained better than that of building construction.
