International Co-operation
International cooperation is an increasingly important aspect of the promotion of security of supply. In today’s world, value and supply chains are global and more interdependent than ever. In addition to this, motivation for international cooperation is constantly being strengthened by globalisation and the cascading effects thereof.
Monitoring the international operating environment not only bolsters situational awareness in terms of national security of supply, it also improves the ability to adapt to societal changes, both international and domestic. Situational awareness is built via foresight and by producing research and analyses for the benefit of the various operators in the field of security of supply. Long-term scenario planning and the continuous monitoring of the operating environment in collaboration with the National Emergency Supply Organisation have been part of Finland’s security of supply work for decades.
Finland is an active participant in multinational cooperation organisations, and the cooperation carried out in them is promoted by multilateral international agreements. The National Emergency Supply Agency engages in Nordic cooperation especially with Sweden and Norway, EU and OECD countries and, in the context of civilian preparedness, with NATO countries as well. The NESA’s other cooperation partners include the United States, the United Kingdom, Estonia, Switzerland and international companies.
