Overall situational picture of security of supply 25 February 2025: Preparedness and Monitoring
There are no disruptions in the general situation overview of supply security, but several issues are being monitored. With the spring bird migration, the occurrence of avian influenza is being observed, and during the ongoing winter season, attention is also focused on the availability of electricity.
Labor disputes have affected business operations and caused preparedness measures. From the perspective of supply security, operational capability has been maintained relatively well. Strike committees have also excluded critical functions from the labor disputes.
The amount of purchasing in stores was higher than normal before the start of the labor disputes, but it cannot be said that there was actual hoarding.
The first case of avian influenza of the H5N1 type this year was detected in January in Turku. No new cases have been detected, but the issue is being monitored by authorities as the spring bird migration approaches.
The possibility of tight power situations still exists, for example, due to malfunctions.
A damage was detected in the Cinia C-lion1 submarine cable on 21.2, which did not cause any disruption to data communication. The damage is suspected to have occurred already on 26.1, when the submarine cable between Latvia and Sweden was also damaged.
The overall situational picture of security of supply compiled by the National Emergency Supply Agency (NESA) examines the challenges in the operating environment from several perspectives. The situational picture report includes an overview of different industries’ ability to function and the challenges they may face.
The NESA updates the overall situational picture once a month and releases a brief summary of the situational picture report. The details concerning industries are classified and are therefore not made public.
