Overall situational picture of security of supply: COVID-19 causing absences from work
The state of security of supply has not significantly changed compared to the previous overall situational picture. The increase in COVID-19 infections is causing work absences, and strikes over the Government’s plans to reform the labour market may cause production delays in various industries.
The overall situational picture of security of supply compiled by the National Emergency Supply Agency (NESA) examines the challenges in the operating environment from several perspectives. The situational picture report includes an overview of different industries’ ability to function and the challenges they may face.
At present, the overall situational picture of security of supply is updated every other week, with the next situational picture scheduled to be published on 1 December.
The NESA releases a brief summary of the situational picture report. The details concerning industries are classified and are therefore not made public.
Situational picture on 17 November: Profitability of farms decreasing
The state of security of supply has not changed to any significant degree.
The increase in COVID-19 infections is being felt in many sectors. The infections are causing large numbers of absences from work, but no significant impacts on functionality have been reported.
The capacity of the Inkoo LNG terminal has been fully reserved for the 2023–2024 winter season. Effective icebreaking will be essential for ensuring the delivery of shipments this upcoming winter.
The strikes that started in November in many industries over the Finnish Government’s plans to reform the labour market are expected to have minor or, in some cases, significant impacts on delivery times and production, among other things.
According to a new forecast by Natural Resources Institute Finland (Luke), the average entrepreneurial income and profitability of farms will decrease this year. The profitability of grain and oil crop farms will decline in particular. The liquidity of a large proportion of farms has continued to decline.
