Overall situational picture of security of supply 17 December 2024: Situational picture remains stable

The overall situational picture of security of supply remains stable. The critical services of society can be provided without disruptions in most sectors. In the coming months, the situational picture of security of supply may be negatively affected by hybrid threats and weather phenomena.

The operational status of the electricity system is currently normal. However, electricity consumption will increase in the winter as the temperature decreases. During periods of peak consumption on cold and calm winter days, the security of supply of electricity is dependent on no significant failures occurring.

The events in the Middle East, especially the regime change in Syria and the conflict between Israel and Hamas, have not affected the overall situational picture of security of supply in Finland, with the exception of the international logistics disruptions caused by attacks against ships in the Red Sea area.

Sickness absences are still on the rise due to the flu season. Several sectors have also reported on reduced employee coping and availability of skilled labour.

The overall situational picture of security of supply compiled by the National Emergency Supply Agency (NESA) examines the challenges in the operating environment from several perspectives. The situational picture report includes an overview of different industries’ ability to function and the challenges they may face.

The NESA updates the overall situational picture once a month and releases a brief summary of the situational picture report. The details concerning industries are classified and are therefore not made public.
